Our new baby Hildy!
![]()
Hildy comes to us from a Tennessee Walker Horse farm, Much like a puppy mill but with horses.
Hildy was either born in May of 2008 or August of 2008. Her breeder could not
remember.
She had a long story of how Hildy was born on Mother's day and her mother in law
was visiting so they named her Hildy after her husbands mother. A week later the
story changed and she was born in August on the Mother in Laws birthday.
So,
Hildy is either 11 months old or 8 months old.
Judging from her Hooves which are severely overgrown and she's walking on the
backs of her fetlocks our vet says she's got to be a year at least. Hildy
is 10.2 hands tall, She weighs in at 226lbs.
Hildy is a bag of bones and hair. Hildy is currently learning to eat healthy grain and hay.
We lined the stall with straw to cushion the ground if Hildy wants to lie down and rest. Hildy thought it was food and began eating the straw. Horses don't eat straw, horses eat hay. Hildy did not know the difference.
We
do have two yearling horses the same age as Hildy. They are significantly larger
and weigh much more.
Hildy is no bigger than a starving great dane.
She's very wooly so you may not see the bones sticking out as we do. I'm rather glad the photos don't show all that. I don't want to remember her like this. Hopefully we'll have her fattened up and when she sheds all this hair she's gonna look great.
Here's Hildy photos.
Here's the yearling kids and a mom. They are anxious to meet Hildy as they look over the stall door to check her out. Kari had an apple for Hildy. She's feeding it to Bella as Hildy does not know what treats are, She will soon enough, She will be very spoiled and loved.

May 09 Hildy loves apples, From not knowing what they are to gobbling them up.
She's shedding out her
monster coat and is gaining a bit of weight in the last month she's been with
us.
She's getting a bit of spunk and attitude about her too.
She loves to run and buck and bounce when she's turned out.
She loves her buddy Pride,
Most likely a half brother, uncle or somehow related.
Hildy's first bath!
It finally warmed up enough for a nice bath, plus Hildy has gained a bit more weight so the cold won't be so bad.
Here she is all wet and shiny

Yep, she still is
scary skinny but she is coming around, she's gaining week by week She has gained
more than 100lbs in her first month with us, she's getting taller and bigger
too.
Hildy is eating grain three times a day, she gets special minerals and
supplements in her feed plus she has great hay in front of her 24/7.
She is our special girl.
